Sources: 76ers struggling to field lineup vs. Pels

The Philadelphia 76ers are struggling to find eight available players, sources told ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, putting Sunday’s game against the New Orleans Pelicans in jeopardy.

The 76ers placed Andre Drummond and Shake Milton in the NBA’s health and safety protocols on Sunday, while Joel Embiid (ankle), Tyrese Maxey (quad) and Danny Green (hip) are all listed as questionable. Georges Niang was added to the protocols Wednesday.

The situation puts a third game into doubt for Sunday, as the Cavaliers-Hawks and Nuggets-Nets contests have been postponed because of COVID-19 issues, sources told Wojnarowski.

League sources told ESPN earlier this week that the NBA and National Basketball Players Association were discussing a plan that would require teams decimated by COVID-19 to sign additional replacement players to avoid games being postponed.

However, a number of potential additions are in Las Vegas for the G League showcase starting Sunday, complicating the process of finding quick lineup replacements.

Information from ESPN’s Tim Bontemps was used in this report.
