LSG vs DC: “I Wanted To Make An Impact In This Game”- Mark Wood After Winning Player Of The Match Award Against DC

Delhi Capitals (DC) suffered a massive defeat as they lost the match by 50 runs against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in IPL 2023. Mark Wood was in red-hot form as the right-arm speedster took 5 wickets & gave away only 14 runs in his 4-over spell. Mark Wood attained a huge feat as he became the second pacer from England to take a 5 wicket haul in IPL after the former all-rounder Dimitri Mascarenhas. Mascarenhas had taken 5 wickets for 25 runs for PBKS (*earlier Kings XI Punjab) against Pune Warriors India (PWI) in Mohali way back in 2012.

Mark Wood at the same time has become the first player from the LSG franchise to take a 5-wicket haul and the first player to bag a 5-wicket haul in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. The DC batters were quite clueless against Mark Wood who was bowling thunderbolts with immaculate lines & lengths.

Perhaps, DC should make Rilee Rossouw bat at the No.3 position as the left-handed batter has got a pretty good track record. Rossouw scored 30 runs in 20 balls where he smashed 3 fours & 1 six. There were high hopes from the wicket-keeper batter Sarfaraz Khan but he was dismissed cheaply.

KL Rahul’s captaincy was spot one where he rotated his bowlers smartly. LSG bowlers made sure that they do not give any loose deliveries to the batters. It won’t be wrong to say that LSG have got good balance in the batting & bowling department where Kyle Mayers & Nicholas Pooran played terrific knocks earlier in the innings.

I wanted to make an impact in this game- Mark Wood

During the post-match presentation, Mark Wood was asked about his performance & about the pitch as well.

‘Last time I played for CSK, but it didn’t go quite well. But I wanted to make an impact in this game. The landing area was bit of an issue, but I am pleased with my rhythm as I managed to take wickets. You could see the dew on the grass and it affected me. I fall even at the best of times. We have trained here, so we knew dew was going to be a factor,” said Mark Wood.

“KL tried to keep things simple for me and the planning with Morne helped me. I was trying to keep my strides short (due to the wet outfield). Trained here before during practice games, but the intensity was different, not as much as it was tonight. Was worried a bit about slipping but I will try to shrug that off next time,” he added.
