Due to the absence of a bridge in the village, several school children had to cross the river during heavy rains with the help of a rope in the Patrapur block of Odisha’s Ganjam district.

Meanwhile, Odisha School and Mass Education Minister Sameer Ranjan Das ordered the local MLA and officials to resolve the issue. “I had no information about this incident. I got to know about this from the media. I have ordered the local MLA and the local officials of the department to resolve the issue,” Das said.

According to sources, during the rainy season, people from nearly 15 villages have to cross the river to reach their destinations.

Last Friday, the school children had to cross the river, but due to heavy rains and a flood-like situation, they were not able to do so.

The local villagers then helped them to cross the river by tying a rope from one end of the river to the other.

Ravindra Nayak, a local resident told India Today, “Due to heavy rains in the district, the flow of water in the river had intensified. It was difficult to get the children to cross in the water flow. In such a situation, we made the children cross the river by tying a rope from one end of the river to the other. After that, the children went to their respective homes safely. However, this situation is dangerous.”

The villagers said that they had already informed the Block Development Officer (BDO) of Patrapur about the situation in September last year and demanded that a bridge be constructed. However, their demands were not met.
