By Kumar Abhishek: A Bharatiya Janata Party MP from Gorakhpur has been sentenced to one-and-a-half years of jail for blocking a road against the arrest of Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav and Shivpal Yadav in 2008.

Identified as Kamlesh Paswan, the BJP leader, was in Samajwadi Party when the incident happened. Paswan is now a BJP MP from Gorakhpur’s Bansgaon seat.

If the punishment had been two years instead of one-and-a-half years, then the BJP leader would not have been a MP.

The case dates back to January 2008 when Paswan was involved in a protest against the arrest of Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav and his uncle Shivpal Yadav.
