By Suryagni Roy: Bengal BJP MLA and the Leader of Opposition in the state assembly Suvendu Adhikari called for the National Register of Citizen (NRC) at a rally in Thakurnagar, a town on the Bengal-Bangladesh border. MP Shantanu Thakur was present at the rally.
“The Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) will happen. I personally demand the implementation of the NRC and the population control bill. There are many countries for Muslims and Christians. But there is only one homeland of Hindus,” Adhikari said.
“The CAA will be implemented. Once a law is passed, nothing can stop it from being implemented. No chief minister can stop it. The ones who are objecting to it, need to answer,” he said.
“100 years from now, you won’t be here. If a government comes and says that refugees who came to India during a particular period of time are to be driven out like the Rohingyas, will you (the chief minister) be there to protest?
“The CAA will give citizenship and not take it away,” Adhikari reiterated.
