50-year-old arrested in Ranchi for marrying seven times, hiding identity

The man changed his name and posed as a police officer to forcibly marry people and extort money.

50-year-old arrested in Ranchi for marrying seven times including minors

By Satyajeet Kumar: Jharkhand’s Bokaro Police arrested a 50-year-old man in Ranchi on Wednesday for marrying seven times and having physical relations with a minor. Identified as Aslam Khan, the man did not reveal his identity and religion to the girls he married.

Aslam used to introduce himself as Sanjay Kasera and targeted minor girls, especially from tribal communities, said the police. He was absconding for two months and was taken to Bokaro from Ranchi on Friday.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Kuldeep Kumar said Aslam was booked for marrying a minor girl and having a physical relationship with her. He was also booked for marrying six times by hiding his identity and posing as a police officer.

On December 8, 2022, Aslam disguised himself as a police officer by wearing a uniform and marrying a minor Hindu girl. The police in Harla received information that a minor was getting married and arrived at the spot, but Aslam fled the spot.

A complaint was lodged at the Harla Police Station saying that Aslam Khan changed his name to Sanjay Kasera and concealed his religion. It further said the accused disguised himself as a police officer and threatened the minor’s family to forcibly marry her.

During the investigation, police also found that Aslam had extorted money from several people by posing as a cop and threatening them.

Deputy SP Kuldeep Kumar said cases were pending against Aslam in Ranchi, Dhanbad, Topchanchi and Chas. He was also sent to jail in 2021 in connection with a case lodged against him in Chas.

Police had some difficulty tracking down Aslam’s whereabouts but finally managed to arrest him after gathering information. He was arrested in Ranchi where he was living under a different name – Saddam.
